Mom always called it 'seasoning' the skillet. I'm not sure if it's all that should be done, but that's how I keep mine "seasoned". I just used hot water and scraped them clean, patted them dry and then lightly oiled the insides with a rubbing cloth. I didn't do anything to the outside. I think I remember doing something different to our camp cooking iron pots but I can't remember what...stored in air tight containers...something rubbed on the bottom as well? ... I don't know. The girls are fun all the time...but that's because they are still young enough that they demand the focus...which is okay but I really, really enjoyed having the boys by themselves. I really am working on making it possible to go camping again this year. I just can't tell you how bonding it was for us ... and last Friday night was just a small reminder. They just open up and have fun when you get them out away from the norm...I guess we're all like that.
